It’s my first Annual Blessing of the Animals at Good Shepherd! We’ll gather with our four-footed companions at 3:00 on Sunday, October 10 on the church lawn. In previous Blessings of the Animals, I’ve blessed lots of dogs, a few cats, a gerbil, a gecko, and a 250 pound hog, among others of God’s creatures. There’s plenty of room on the lawn for more and different representatives of God’s creatures to join us!
Members of the congregation and the community are invited to bring their pets for a short, informal service and an individual blessing in the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi.
Pastor Dave is teaching a fun and fundamental course called “The Bible: An Owner’s Manual” in the Community Room. In this study, participants are learning why there are 66 books in the Bible and about the many translations available today. Also covered is the exciting story of how people risked their lives to bring the Bible into English. After six weeks, participants will be more familiar and comfortable with the Bible. This course is ideal for those new to Bible study as well as for “veterans” who want to know more about the most important book in the world.
Questions are encouraged in this study; much of the class is based on questions asked by those who attend. Pastor Dave learns new stuff every time he teaches this course – and he’s been teaching it for over 15 years!
See or e-mail ([email protected]) Pastor Dave for more information or to let him know you’re coming. But you don’t need to register, just show up in the Community Room!
To quote Pastor Dave, “I do not need to be installed to work.” Well, it is time to make it official. We have scheduled Pastor Dave’s installation by Bishop Gohl for January 5th at 3 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there as we welcome him to our family!
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is celebrating with Pastor Ed in his retirement after 40 years as a minister of the Word and Sacrament. He has served Good Shepherd for the past two years as interim minister and has done so much for our parish. We offer our gratitude for his faithful service; and will miss both Pr. Ed and his wife, Janet.
October 20th is his last Sunday with us.
Welcoming Our New Pastor
We also gather together to welcome Pastor Dave Simpson as the new pastor at Good Shepherd! Pastor Dave comes to us from Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersville, Maryland. We are delighted to welcome him and his wife, Karen, to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Pastor Dave’s first Sunday with us will be October 27th.
