SUMMARY OF GOOD SHEPHERD COUNCIL MEETING - Tuesday, September 8, 2008

A special meeting of the Church Council of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church was held on Monday, September 8, 2008, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Carl Boyer, representing the team that has been working on revisions to the Constitution, presented the final revisions for submission to the Synod Office.  The Council approved the team’s revisions.   Once approved by the Synod Office, these revisions will be presented to the congregation for final approval.

The Council approved a motion that, beginning in 2009, the Gift of Love contributions be based on a monthly publicized list of local charities determined by the Social Ministry Team for the congregation to support.

The Council also approved a motion that beginning January 1, 2009, the Gift of Love envelopes, currently in the pews, will be placed in the Narthex with a visual display identifying the local charities where the funds will be applied.

The Finance Team will present their final proposed budget for 2009 at the October 13 Council meeting.

The Annual Congregational Meeting is set for November 16, 2008, beginning with a potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. with the annual meeting to start at 1:15 p.m.   The meeting will begin with a preliminary exercise asking members to list the five most important criteria to them if they were seeking a new church family.  Those criteria will be shared in groups of about 10 each with the listing of pros and cons as to how Good Shepherd measures up to those criteria.  Each group will appoint a person to report back to the total assembly.  We hope this exercise will help us better focus on the workings of the Holy Spirit among us as we prepare for the 2009 year.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord's Prayer.
